
Dr. Tanya L. Castro, an accomplished sports-based chiropractor, provides quality care to athletic individuals and those with active lifestyles. She specializes in the leading edge treatment of sports related injuries and performance enhancement. Through superior chiropractic care, injury-specific rehabilitation, and exercise and nutrition counseling, Dr. Castro’s goal is to empower athletes and active individuals to reach their peak performance.
Dr. Castro received her Masters of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion and is a cum laude graduate of Southern California University of Health Sciences where she received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree. She is the only female Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner in Hawaii and one of two with that distinction. She is the sole chiropractor on Oahu utilizing the same advanced medical laser used to treat top sports performers Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods, Olympic, professional and elite athletes. Dr. Castro is one of five doctors in the state and one of two on the island of Oahu certified in Active Release Techniques, a revolutionary form of manual therapy designed to treat damaged soft tissue, facilitate faster healing, and restore maximum strength and mobility. Dr. Castro also holds certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine in the areas of Performance Enhancement and Corrective Exercise.
An athlete herself, Dr. Castro is well-qualified to understand the unique needs of high-performance athletes and physically active individuals. She is an avid participant in local marathons, triahtlons and fun runs. In order to help individuals reach optimum health, Dr. Castro promotes a proactive collaboration between patient and practitioner. She educates patients on methods to prevent further injuries and enhance sports performance. Her goal is for patients to have a strategy for achieving fitness and lifestyle goals, pain-free and without the need for ongoing treatment.
Dr. Castro uses her expertise to benefit the local community. She regularly volunteers her services at sports events such as the World Championship Ironman event held annually on the Big Island. Dr. Castro has been a guest speaker providing health-related talks for local groups and business organizations.
