Active Release Technique

What is it?

Active Release Technique (A.R.T.®) is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system that diagnoses and permanently treats soft tissue injuries. These injuries can be a result of repetitive stress or trauma such as whiplash or from over-use of the same muscle group doing the same activities. It is a non-invasive healing procedure that locates and breaks down scar tissue and adhesions that cause soft-tissue injuries.

How is it performed?

It is a method of healing injuries by locating scar tissue, then applying tension to the scar tissue while lengthening muscles, tendons and ligaments. ART returns tissue to its correct tension, texture, movement and function thus eliminating symptoms.

These treatment protocols - over 500 specific moves - are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach - treatment and specific moves incorporated depend on the evaluation results of the patient.

Each session takes between 10 to 30 minutes and comfort level varies by each individual. At times ART can be described as mildly uncomfortable but the therapeutic benefits easily outweigh any tenderness felt during a treatment.

Who should consider ART?

ART is a highly successful treatment not only for athletes, but to anyone who leads an active life, sits at a computer all day, or enjoys gardening. Many daily activities cause repetitive stress and the formation of scar tissue, which hinders the movement and function of soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves). This creates symptoms of pain, stiffness, decreased range of motion, numbness and weakness.

If you suffer from any of the following ailments, ART may be the solution for you.

  • Headaches
  • Back pain
  • Hip pain
  • Neck pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Golfer's elbow
  • Tendonitis
  • Shin splints
  • Finger pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Sciatica
  • Leg pain
  • TMJ
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Knee problems
  • Wrist pain
  • Tennis elbow

ART has a 90% success rate in treating these symptoms permanently.

Graston Technique

What is it?

The Graston Technique, originally developed by athletes, is changing the way clinicians - including athletic trainers, chiropractors, physical therapists, occupational therapists - and patients view treatment of acute and chronic soft tissue injuries.

The Graston Technique is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

How is it performed?

The Graston Technique instruments are used to enhance the clinician's ability to detect adhesions, scar tissue or restrictions in the affected areas. Skilled clinicians use the stainless steel instruments to comb over and "catch" on fibrotic tissue, which immediately identifies the areas of restriction. Once the tissue has been identified, the instruments are used to break up the scar tissue so the body can absorb it.

Patients usually receive two treatments per week over 4-5 weeks. Most patients have a positive response by the 3rd to 4th treatment. The process includes a brief warm-up exercise, Graston Technique treatment, followed by stretching, strengthening and ice. It is common to experience minor discomfort during the procedure and some bruising afterwards. This is a normal response and part of the healing process.

Who should consider Graston Technique?

If you suffer from any of the acute and chronic conditions listed below, you may be a good candidate for Graston Technique.

  • Bodily pain such as back, neck, wrist, foot, ankle, shoulder, knee
  • Tennis elbow
  • Golfer's elbow
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Scar Tissue

Laser Therapy

What is Laser Therapy?

LASER is an acronym which stands for Light Amplification by Simulated Emission of Radiation. Peak Performance Chiropractic uses the most advanced laser system on the market: the Erchonia Medical PL5000 laser. This is the same laser used to treat professional athletes Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods. The laser is a painless stream of monochromatic light which is used to treat musculoskeletal injuries as well as chronic and degenerative conditions. It works at the cellular level, allowing cells to produce more energy, in turn promoting healing. As light energy is transformed into biochemical energy in the body, the blood supply to damaged cells is increased and the healing process is stimulated. As a result, that patient experiences a relief in symptoms.

How is it performed?

The laser uses a complex computer program, as well as low intensity laser diodes to treat injured tissue. The light source is placed over the treatment site, allowing the photon (light) energy to penetrate the tissue. Here it interacts with various intracellular biomolecules to restore normal cell function and enhance the body's healing processes.

Who should consider laser therapy?

If you suffer from any of the following acute or chronic conditions listed below, laser therapy may be the solution for you.

  • Any form of muscular injury
  • Joint pain (i.e. low back pain, TMJ dysfunction)
  • Ligament or tendon tears
  • Arthritis (rheumatoid and osteo)
  • Repetitive stress injury (i.e. carpal tunnel syndrome)
  • Subluxations/post-dislocations
  • Inflammation of tendons, bursae, muscle, or fascia (i.e. plantar fasciitis)
  • Calcifications (i.e. bone spurs)
  • Post surgical scarring (orthopedic, cosmetic)
  • Scar reduction

The number of treatment sessions will vary depending on your condition, however the results of laser therapy treatment are cumulative, and 5-12 treatments are typically required.

Manual therapy is recommended as a complementary therapy to laser therapy, as it can speed the healing process by breaking down adhesions, increasing muscle mobility and increasing arterial and lymphatic circulation. Active Release and Graston Techniques are the most effective manual therapy methods used in conjunction with laser therapy.

Accelerated Recovery Protocal

What is it?

ARP is an acronym for Accelerated Recovery Performance, a system comprised of proprietary technology and protocols created by Denis Thompson founder of ARPwave. ARP uses a patented bio-electrical current, simultaneously with active range-of-motion and other exercise techniques, to significantly speed up the body's natural recuperative ability.

ARP is based on the premise that injury is the result of the muscle’s inability to absorb force. The electrical stimulation device (the ARP) possesses specific characteristics that are not found in any conventional therapeutic neuromuscular electrical stimulator (interferential, microcurrent, galvanic, Russian stim, iontophoresis).

The ARP uses direct current (DC) compounded with a high frequency double exponential, patented background waveform. This background wave is harmonious with the body and significantly reduces skin and fatty tissue impedance allowing much deeper penetration of the direct current without the side effects of skin burning.

Also, the unique waveform produces minimal inhibitory protective muscle contractions allowing active range of motion during therapy and training. This permits eccentric (lengthening) contractions to occur which are critical to treatment.

How is it performed?

All ARP treatments work on the principle that joint problems, tears, sprains, fractures, or repetitive task injuries are caused by muscles not properly absorbing force. This energy propagates to tissue not intended to accept the force. We identify the muscles that are incapable of doing their job and treat them by placing electrode pads on the area to eliminate the cause of these symptoms. Most of the time, the symptom of pain or weakness will be resolved. We do not treat the specific bone fracture, joint problem, or tear, but treat the muscles so they can perform their normal role of stabilizing the site.

Who should consider ARP?

ARP treatment is indicated for the treatment of all muscle related injuries.

  • Relaxation of muscle spasms
  • Prevention and retardation of disuse atrophy
  • Increase of local blood circulation
  • Muscle re-education,
  • Maintaining and increasing range of motion.

Post-surgical Rehabilitation
ARP protocols can also be specifically used with the ARP to accelerate muscle rehabilitation of the following:

  • Cervical and Lumbar spine
  • Shoulder
  • Elbow
  • Wrist
  • Hip
  • Knee
  • Ankle
  • Foot

Functional Training

What is it?

Functional training is a classification of exercise that involves training the body to perform activities of daily life. This could be as simple as sitting, standing, walking and lifting or as complex as golf, basketball, MMA or any of your favorite sports or hobbies. Simply put, we ask you what you want to be able to do, identify what’s preventing you from doing so and bridge the gap between with a specifically tailored program that suits your needs.

How is it performed?

Functional training involves mainly weight bearing activities targeted at core muscles of the abdomen, lower back and glutes. This is very different from most fitness facilities that use complicated machines to isolate specific muscles. This traditional form of training might be great for bodybuilders but bears no relationship to the movements people make in the their regular activities or sport. Functional training utilizes low tech equipment like Gym Balls, tubes, resistance bands and foam rollers to target muscle GROUPS rather than isolated muscles.

Who should consider functional training?

This type of training focuses on restoring mobility and increasing stability while developing the correct sequence of movement patterns which allow individuals to perform activities of daily life and sport more easily and without injuries.

Chiropractic

What is it?

Chiropractic care works on the skeletal system - the bones and joints - to keep everything in line and functioning freely. It is a safe, natural and effective form of health care. The goal of chiropractic care is to gradually restore the spine and joints to their natural position and motion, thus improving nervous system function, spinal function and overall health.

How is it performed?

A chiropractor will administer specific adjustments to areas of your spine that are "fixated" or out of alignment, thus inhibiting normal nervous and spinal function. Adjustment techniques vary from practitioner to practitioner. Some methods employ quick rapid thrusts while others are slower with constant pressure. All techniques are equally effective and may be employed depending on the circumstance. Years of training and clinical experience allow the Doctor of Chiropractic to determine the best method for you.

Who should consider chiropractic care?

If you suffer from any of the following ailments, chiropractic care may be the solution for you.

Neuromusculoskeletal complaints such as:

  • Headaches
  • Joint pain
  • Neck pain
  • Low back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Spinal disk conditions
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Tendonitis
  • Sprains and strains

Non-neuromusculoskeletal conditions such as:

  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Digestive disorders
  • Otitis media (non-suppurative)

Biochemical Analysis

What is it?

Biomechanical Analysis consists of analyzing body movement during a specific activity such as running or a golf swing. This examination is followed by specific treatment in order to free restrictions that may be a limiting factor in achieving a desired optimal movement pattern.

How is it performed?

  • Step 1: We observe a patient performing their chosen activity.
  • Step 2: We identify inefficiencies or restrictions in the movement pattern.
  • Step 3: Through the use of the appropriate soft tissue therapy (Active Release Techniques and/or Graston Technique), we attempt to eliminate these restrictions and restore the intended optimal movement pattern.

Who should consider having Biomechanical Analysis?

Anyone who is who is looking to:

  • Maximize performance
  • Maximize efficiency of movement
  • Prevent injury due to improper mechanics

Precision Nutrition

What is it?

The Precision Nutrition System is a practical, step-by-step system to get real-life results. The systems provides you with 7 guidebooks, a gourmet cookbook, and a full membership to the Member Zone, where you’ll find an online library and the 24/7 private support forums. Organized in an entertaining and instructive format, it’s got everything you need to obtain optimal health, performance, and body composition.

Who can benefit from Precision Nutrition?

The easiest way to describe who Precision Nutrition is for is to tell you who it ISN’T for.

Precision Nutrition is not for people who already have the bodies they want. If you’ve already got the results you desire, and look exactly the way you want to look, your nutrition is sufficient to achieve at least that much. Precision Nutrition is a results-based program, and if you already got it, flaunt it. But if you think there’s room for improvement to your health, performance or even to the way you look, than this could be the right program for you.

Precision Nutrition is a practical, step-by-step system to get real-life results, not a textbook to teach nutritional biochemistry.

BUT, if you’re not yet getting the results you want – if you’re overweight and want to lose fat, or underweight and want to gain muscle, or unhealthy and want to eat healthier, or tired and want increased energy – then Precision Nutrition is definitely, certainly, and absolutely for you.
